David spent his early years living in the back of his father’s upholstery shop in Brooklyn. When the family moved to Virginia, David was one of the first African Americans to go to an all white school in Dinwiddie County. In high school, he was a member of the forensic team, finishing 3rd place in the state in poetry reading, during his senior year.
At Anderson University in Indiana, David continued performing in musicals, dramas and voice recitals. He soon put those years of experience on stage into his work with the South Shore Theatre Collective of Bayport, Long Island, playing ensemble and lead roles in works by Jules Feiffer and Neil Simon, and other playwrights. He branched into professional theatre with the role of Bernard in Boys in The Band at nearby Airport Playhouse. After moving back to New York, David was picked up by Kemcy Modeling Agency, and became a member of the acting company at One West Dinner Theatre in Harlem.
After several years of performing, David left the business to pursue his love of the metaphysical and esoteric, and to have a range of life experiences that would inform his craft on the deepest of levels. Since returning to the scene as a performing artist, David has worked in independent movies, videos, television commercials, industrials, theatre and voiceover. He also tours part of the year as an actor/educator for Living Voices, performing and speaking with students and adults across the country about the Civil Rights movement and the American Revolution.
He has sung with Steve Ross at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and performs his own solo shows at Don’t Tell Mama, the Laurie Beechman Theatre, Garage Restaurant, and other venues in the New York City area. His first CD titled Our Day Will Come, co-produced with Marc Puricelli, was released in ’07. As ‘David Nathan’ he is the host of the internet radio show The Bright Side which attracts well known guests from the fields of ufology, metaphysics, science and music, such as Stanton Friedman, Giorgio Tsoukalos, Sonia Barrett and Michele Kort.
He strives for a live and work based on honesty and truth.
Most importantly, he sees his life as part of the greater Life,
buoyed by the flow of an invisible but manifest power – Love.
P.S. David loves to samba, salsa and swing.
